What the Correction Officer test looks like

The multiple-choice test is conducted at a computer terminal. Multiple-choice testing for Exam 6303 was expected to begin on Thursday, 13 August 2026, following a filing period that ran 1 April to 29 May 2026.

Your score determines your position on the eligible list. As on every other exam here, passing and placing well are different achievements.

Mathematical reasoning is defined as understanding and organizing a problem and then selecting a mathematical method or formula to solve it — reasoning through a problem to determine which operations apply. The notice illustrates it with an officer calculating the average number of miles driven for each tour.

Number facility is defined more narrowly as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing quickly and correctly, illustrated by compiling and verifying data such as coordinating the distribution of special meals to different facilities.

The distinction matters for practice. One tests whether you can pick the right operation; the other tests whether you can execute it accurately at speed. Preparing for them as a single topic called "maths" wastes the separation the notice draws.

Basic hand-held calculators for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are permitted on this exam. Calculators with additional features are banned and will be sealed in a Yondr pouch if brought to the site.

The Police Officer and School Safety Agent notices both state flatly that calculators are not permitted. Traffic Enforcement Agent, like this one, allows a basic four-function calculator. If you are filing for more than one of these titles, the rule follows the exam and not you.

Everything else electronic is sealed for the duration of the exam event, including headphones and earbuds. Using a prohibited device — in the testing area, a restroom, a hallway, or anywhere else — nullifies your score, bars you from civil-service tests for up to five years, and forfeits your application fee.

Deductive reasoning, illustrated by assigning tasks and jobs and determining which can be assigned to whom. Information ordering, illustrated by reporting for roll call ready to receive work assignment orders. Written comprehension, illustrated by interpreting policies and regulations and carrying out procedures based on them.

Memorization, problem sensitivity, spatial orientation, visualization, inductive reasoning and written expression complete the set. Problem sensitivity is illustrated by observing behaviour, conduct and activities to verify compliance — which is a fair description of a great deal of the job.

Question count, running time, section boundaries and per-ability weighting do not appear in the notice. Nor does any past form of the paper.

Where our practice papers use a length or a structure, it is one we have documented as ours. The point is to make pacing rehearsable, not to imply knowledge nobody outside DCAS has.
